SENIOR ATTEND TAMIU IN LAREDO

La Pryor High School seniors attended a college preview day at Texas A&M University in Laredo on December 11th.  Students were given a campus tour and provided the opportunity to learn about TAMIU's academic programs and campus.  TAMIU did a great job keeping our students entertained and showing them their beautiful campus.

Our senior and junior students have had several presenters from varying college, career, and military representations.  These representatives provide our students with information regarding their institutions, career opportunities, job requirements, and so much more.  A special thank you to our following presenters:  National Coastguard recruiter, John Cantu, who presented to our students on November 7th; Texas A&M  International University recruiter, Gabriela Lopez, who presented on November 8th; and U.S. Border Patrol Agent, Rowdy Mack, who presented to our students on November 26th.  La Pryor High School will continue to provide our students with presentations and information regarding college and career readiness throughout the year.

The University of Texas at San Antonio representative, Anna Gutierrez, traveled from San Antonio on October 29th to visit with our 11th and 12th grade students. She presented to our students about the general college admission process.  Thanks to UTSA for sending their area recruiter to meet with our students!  Go Runners!

The 2018 Homecoming Parade will be held Wednesday October 24th starting at 7:00 PM. All the floats will leave from the high school parking lot (Green Square) and go north on 305. We will make a u-turn at the 1436 intersection and go south all the way to HWY 57 where we will make another u-turn and head back to the school. The 7th - 12th Graders will finish at the high school parking lot (Red Square) and Avance - 6th graders will go to the elementary parking lot for pickup (Blue Square). The Bonfire will begin 30 minutes after the parade is over at the baseball field. I have attached a map that shows the route. More information to come later.

ELEMENTARY STUDENT COUNCIL VISITED LA PRYOR NUTRITION CENTER

The newly formed LPISD elementary student council visited the La Pryor Nutrition Center today.  The students handed out blankets and small painted pumpkins to everyone.  Afterwards the students and LPISD staff helped serve everyone lunch.  "It was awesome to see our young students give back to the community" said Mr. McHazlett.  LPISD staff accompanying the students were Mrs. Mann, sponsor, Mrs. Sanchez, sponsor, Mr. De La Fuente, principal and Mr. McHazlett, superintendent.

ELEMENTARY RECEIVES "B" RATING elem staff

La Pryor Elementary had an amazing 2017-2018 School Year.  They received a B rating based on student performance on the state's STAAR test.  Letter grades will officially be given to all campuses starting in August of 2019. The Elementary also received 4 distinctions out of 6. 3rd and 5th grade Reading and Math had over a 90 percent success rate.  4th and 6th grade Math had over an 80 percent success rate.  4th and 6th grade Reading had over a 70 percent success rate.  This rates are based on all 2017 STAAR state test data.  All teachers returned for the 2018-2019 school year.  La Pryor Elementary would like to thank all teachers and staff for returning and rising to the challenge in the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.  Thank you to parents, guardians, and community members for making La Pryor Elementary successful.

US News and World Report released their Best High School National Rankings this morning.  La Pryor High school received a bronze badge.  They published detailed information today on more than 20,500 U.S. public high schools, including school-specific data on enrollment, student ethnicity, location, school type, and results of state assessments, Advanced Placement tests and College and Career Readiness.  Less than 30% of the schools earned the right to display a badge and to be called Best High Schools. ACT STATE/DISTRICT TESTING

11th grade students will be administered the ACT test on Tuesday, February 27th.  The ACT is a widely utilized college entrance exam which is offered six Saturdays throughout the year.  LPHS has applied and been granted the opportunity to test students on campus at no charge to our students.  It is a district sponsored exam.  Breakfast will be provided to our students at 8:00 a.m. at the cafeteria. Testing will begin promptly at 8:30.

Cross Country attends the Texas Tech Cross Country Camp @ Captain, New Mexico.  Camp consists of morning and evening runs, lectures through out the day, team building exercises as well as a community service project.  Runners get to have a first hand experience on workouts as well as tips to help them improve in areas they lack in. Attending this camp are Kathy Alvarez, Lexi Sambrano, Alex Ramirez and Coach Lozano.

PROJECT SMART FIELD TRIPS

Project Smart students and staff took a trip to the Exotic Zoo where they socialize and hand fed animals in a Safari adventure. The professional tour guides shared amazing facts and educational information about how zoo extends and preserves their way of life by allowing them to thrive and multiply without the threat of the wild.

After that, students and staff traveled to the Science Mill in Johnson City where the students were exposed to STEM activities.  Some of the upper grade students built a rece car and watched it race on an electric track. Students were engaged in an array of science topics such as the Mind Ball, Cell Phone Disco, Create an Explosion, Sail Boat and race track while the younger students enjoyed digging for fossils. 

Students and staff also attended the Toyota Plant Facility and learned about the vehicle production that takes place at the plant in San Antonio.

Finally, they visited the San Jose Mission where they learned about Texas History and the way of life at the mission from farming to the religious values the indigenour people held.

SUMMER SCHOOL FEEDING!

La Pryor ISD invites all children from 1-18 years of age to come eat breakfast and lunch at the cafeteria.The meal is free and you do not need to be in summer school or even attend La Pryor ISD to enjoy the free meals.  The program goes from June 5th - June 29th, Monday through Friday.  Breakfast is served from 7:30 am - 8:30 am, and lunch is from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm.  Come enjoy a great meal that will help nourish growing bodies!

College Forward, in partnership with the Texas AgriLife Extension Program, will be at our campus Tuesday, April 25th, to speak to our students and parents.  College Forward is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping motivated, under-served students achieve their dreams of earning a college degree.  They facilitate activities with students to better understand their perspective on college readiness and about their desired future.  A presentation for 9th-12th grade students is scheduled from 3 pm-4:00 pm.  A presentation for parents is scheduled from 4 pm-5 pm.  Both presentations will take place in the school cafeteria.  Please come by to learn more!

PSAT

Parents of 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students.  La Pryor High School will be offering the PSAT exam on Thursday, April 13th.  The PSAT is a test that is closely aligned to the SAT and it consists of questions in Reading, Writing/Language, and Math. ​

The cost of the test is $10.00 for 8th/9th grade students and $15.00 for 10th grade students, and is to be paid by a check or money order payable to La Pryor High School.  Please contact Mrs. Talamantes, La Pryor High School Counselor, or visit the Counselor's Corner webpage on our district website for more information​.  Thank you and we hope that your student​ may participate in our PSAT exam.

Skylar Blalock is the 8th grade student selected to join the Geo Force for a 4-year term.  Skylar is an outstanding student, and the Science Department is very proud to have him as the GeoForce representative.

"GeoForce is a free college-prep program for the University of Texas at Austin's Jackson School of Geosciences.  Outstanding 8th graders are selected from schools in Southwest Texas and Houston.  Once admitted, students are given the opportunity to travel throughout the country, meet new and inspiring people, and learn about exciting science and career opportunities in high-tech fields."

Key program elements:

  • The program starts the summer before 9th grade;
  • students return each year through high school;
  • students must maintain a B average;
  • each summer there is a spectacular field trip
  • GeoForce offers mentoring and support through college.

Public Notice

La Pryor ISD is now accepting referrals for students who may need Gifted/Talented Services for the school year. This program is designed for students who exhibit intellectual and creative thinking abilities at an extraordinary level not normally served in the regular classroom. Anyone wishing to refer a student attending La Pryor ISD in kindergarten through twelfth grade this school year is asked to go by the student’s campus office and request a copy of the referral form. This form must be returned to the school by Monday, February 22 . Those unable to go by the school should call 830-365-4000 to request a form be sent to them.

La Pryor ISD had a sent off for Joe Adrian Martinez this morning.  Joe Adrian along with Jacob Castillo and Cross Country Coach Elisa Lozano are on their way to the Regional Cross Country Meet in Corpus Christi.  Joe will represent La Pryor High School this afternoon.  We wish him the best of luck!!

LPHS Band

Congratulations to the La Pryor "Mighty Bulldog" Band for receiving a Division 1 Superior rating at the Region 11 UIL Marching Contest!  They are now advancing to the Area E Marching Contest in San Antonio and competing for State!  This is the first time in the school's history! Come support them on their way to State this coming Saturday, October 24th @ East Central Stadium in San Antonio.  Time will be announced later on this week. Click on link below to see schedule.

La Pryor High School Band placed 1st at the Harlandale HS Marching Festival!!  Also, Best Drumline trophy and Best Brass trophy.  Competed in the 3A Category.  Congratulations Band and Good luck this coming Saturday, October 17th as they will be traveling to Hondo for the UIL Region Marching Contest!

Minda Cordova signs with Southwest Texas Junior College

La Pryor High School Senior, Minda Cordova will be attending Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde, Texas on a full ride rodeo scholarship.  Minda will be participating in the breakaway barrel racing and team roping.  Cordova plans on majoring in Criminal Justice, while fulfilling her dream of becoming a rodeo team member.

The La Pryor FFA Wool Judging Team competed at the TAMUK-Area X CDE Contest held in Robstown, TX.  The Wool Judging Team was ranked as one of the "Top Five Wool Judging Teams" in Area X, qualifying them to the State Wool Judging Contest in Lubbock, TX.  Team members are Arianna Dallaire, Haden Dube, Larissa Delgado and Jacklyn Perez.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR BI-DISTRICT CHAMPION BULLDOGS!

Bulldogs will be facing the Fall City Beavers on Friday, November 21 at the Somerset ISD stadium @ 7:30 pm.  We will offer a spirit bus for our community members and our Pep Rally will be @ 8:05 am on Friday.  Playoff shirts will be on sale starting Monday, please call our high school office to place your order.  The order will be placed on Tuesday by 4:30pm

Dr. Bertice Berry to Speak at La Pryor ISD In-Service

 

Sociologist, and award winning lecturer Bertice Berry, Ph.D., is one of the most sought after lecturers in the country. She combines her skills as a sociologist and researcher with her ability to make her audiences think and laugh at the same time.

She is the best selling author of the inspirational memoir, I'm On My Way, But Your Foot Is On My Head. She has also published four best selling novels and two humor books. POWERLIFTING GIRLS ADVANCE TO STATE JP & KP

We would like to congratulate Jacklyn Perez and Kiersten Paul for advancing to state. Jacklyn placed 3rd and Kiersten placed 2nd at this last weekend's regional meet in Carrizo Springs.  State meet will be March 18th in Waco, Texas.  We are very proud of our girls!!! Click here to view more images

Student Holiday Monday October the 10th. School Holiday

Monday October the 10th is a school holiday for all students.  All La Pryor ISD staff will have a regular work day/professional development day. 

Elementary students with perfect attendance will run through.... Perfect Attendance

On Friday October 28th all elementary students with perfect attendance for the 2nd 6 weeks will run through the Bulldog tunnel before the game.  Line up starts at 7:00 pm and run throughs will start at 7:05 with the PK first followed in order by all of the other classes.

La Pryor Elementary Receives 4 Distinction Designations!!!

The La Pryor Elementary Campus not only acheived the "Met Standard" for the first time in four years, the campus received four Distinction Designations.

TESTING DATES

Regional Track Meet

We had a good showing at the regional track meet this weekend in Kingsvile.

Our girls team sent 3 members to compete.  Gracie Gaspar competed in the triple jump, Lucy Mendoza competed in the shot put and the discus and Lari Delgado competed in the shot put finishing in 5th place.  Great Job Ladies!!

Our boys team finished 2nd place overall.  Joe Adrian Martinez competed in the High Jump and the 110 hurdles, Carlos Perez Competed in the shot put, Marco Luevano and Jose Orellana both competed in the discus.  Diante Wilson competed in the 100 meter dash finishing in 3rd place.  Jonathan Witt competed in the pole vault, was the Regional Champion in the Long Jump and Regional Champion in the 300 hurdles.  Jon is advancing to state in both the long jump and the 300 hurdles.  Good Luck Jon!

The 4X400 relay finished in 3rd place. Our 4X200 won the Region and advanced to the state meet.  Both relays are comprised of Adrian Martinez, Diante Wilson, Jonathan Witt and Tristan Witt.  Good Luck in State Boys !!

Motivational speaker coming to LPISD!

 

Aric Bostick, one of the nation’s top motivational speakers and success trainers, has the keen ability to inspire teens and adults from all walks of life. Aric encourages teens to believe in themselves and teaches them how to set goals and follow their dreams. He educates parents and teachers in how to connect with and model this message to young people in their lives. Aric travels to all corners of the United States, sharing the tools needed to live a fulfilling, successful life. Aric believes every student can achieve his or her goals, if given the motivation and right tools necessary to do so.

Aric will be in La Pryor ISD on Monday, September 15, 2014!!!

Elementary (3-6): 10:00 a.m.

HS (7-12): 11:00 a.m.

Staff and Faculty: 3:55 p.m.

Week of October 10th - 15th Week in Sports
2016 - 2017 Homecoming Parade

The 2016-2017 Homecoming Parade will be Wednesday September 21st.  Line up starts at 6:30 pm at the high school and the parade will start at 7:00 PM.  The parade will leave the high school campus and go down the road between Bermea Park and the band practice field, head west on Highway 57 and make a U-Turn in front of the highway department and head to the baseball/softball field.  The bonfire pep-rally will start after 7:30 PM.

San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo

San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo - Calf Scramble

On February 27th, Haden Dube of the La Pryor FFA Chapter participated in the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo- Calf Scramble. Both 4-H and FFA youth members competed for $800 certificates to purchase a breeding animal to exhibit in the 2016 San Antonio Junior Livestock Show. Twelve certificates were awarded to those who caught a calf at the rodeo.

PARENT COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MEETING CHAMPS

LPISD hosted a parent/community engagement meeting yesterday. This group now has a name: "CHAMPS". CHAMPS stands for Committed to Honoring And Motivating Parents and Students. Parents had the opportunity to discuss concerns they had and they came up with some wonderful ideas to promote engagement. LPISD would like to thank everyone who took the time to show up for the meeting. If you missed this meeting, please make plans to attend the next one. Help make a difference in our student's lives. Be a CHAMP!
