Bulldogs Fall to D'Hanis

Great Season Comes to an End

by Randy Graf

May 13, 2008

The La Pryor Bulldog baseball season came to an end on Saturday afternoon.  The Bulldogs fell in game 2 of the best of 3 series to D'Hanis by a score of 15-5.  This followed Friday night's defeat by a score of 9-2.  Friday night's game, played at Blossom Athletic Complex in San Antonio, saw D'Hanis knock out 16 hits against only 3 hits for the Bulldogs.  The Cowboys were lead by Trey Mumme who was 4 for 4 with a walk.  The winning pitcher was Paden Lynch.  Jaime Ledesma took the loss for the Bulldogs.

Saturday started out in good fashion with the Bulldogs leading 2-0 after their first at bat.  But the Cowboys quickly took the lead 3-2 and never relinquished it.  La Pryor closed the gap to 6-5 late in the game but could not come up with enough runs to overtake D'Hanis.  Joe Guzman, Gabriel Garcia, and Andres Luevano all took turns on the mound for the Bulldogs.  The game saw several defensive gems by both teams as well as several big hits each.

The Bulldogs finish the season with an overall record of 18 wins and 12 losses.  They also claimed the Bi-District title and the Area Championship.  The majority of the team are underclassmen and will return next year.  But seniors Jeremy Garza, Adam Lopez, J.P. Velasquez, and Charlie Castillo will be missed.  Senior managers for the team that will also be missed are Colt Brown and Salvador Medina.  Congratulations Coach Ricky Salazar, Coach Randy Winn, and the Bulldogs on a great season!
