In compliance with the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act the La Pryor Independent School District has created the following plan to meet the requirements of P. L. 107-110, Section 1119(a)(3) which states: The Local Education Agency (LEA) will develop a plan to ensure that all teachers teaching in core academic subjects within the district are highly qualified not later than the end of the 2005-2006 school year.
For purpose of this plan: highly qualified is defined by the NCLB Act as: Full State Certification (a license to teach in the state), and a Bachelor's Degree (or higher), and has Demonstrated competency on state test. Core academic subjects is defined by the NCLB Act as: English, Reading or Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Languages, Civics and Government Economics, Arts, History Geography
La Pryor Independent School District Plan
Teacher Notification:
All teachers within the La Pryor I. S. D. will be made aware of the NCLB requirements. This notification will be conducted through the personnel office.
Needs Assessment:
The Curriculum and Instruction Director will work cooperatively with each campus principal to identify all teachers on each campus who do not currently meet NCLB requirements. Individual teacher deficiencies will be highlighted and options discussed as to how the deficiencies can be met.
Individual Teacher Notification:
All teachers within the La Pryor ISD who are not considered "highly qualified" according to the NCLB requirements, will be notified individually through the Curriculum and Instruction Director who will work cooperatively with the teacher to develop a plan to obtain the appropriate qualifications, or certification by the end of the 2008-09 school year. Teachers will be asked to sign a copy of their "deficiency plan" to be placed in their personnel file.
Ongoing Plan:
La Pryor ISD will annually evaluate the progress in meeting the teacher qualification objectives including the percentage of highly qualified teachers in the District and the percentage of teachers who are receiving high-quality professional development. The District will continually monitor the progress of each teacher who does not meet the NCLB requirements. The principal of each Title I, Part A campus will annually attest in writing whether the campus is in compliance with Section 1119 (Teacher and Paraprofessional Qualifications). All principals will meet with individual teachers on a periodic basic (at least once a semester) to keep updated as to their progress. Additionally, annually the personnel office will adhere to the following plan to insure the district meets the teacher qualification objectives.
