The goal of the Curriculum and Instruction Department is to enhance and improve every aspect of the instructional process by providing materials, instruction, and assistance for the educators and administrators of the La Pryor Independent School District. Our department serves teachers and principals by supporting high quality research based curriculum design and instructional practices so that we may supply the tools and resources to make a difference in the academic success of each child.
The Texas Curriculum Management Program Coorperative (TCMPC) includes a team of Education Service Centers and educators that represents all areas of the state. This group manages The TEKS Resource System The Coorperative's goal is to provide a quality curriculum support system to Texas K-12 schools. The TEKS Resource System will contain components that assist teachers in implementing the Texas standards adopted by the State Board of Education. These resources are provided in the four core content areas: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts. At the heart of the TCMPC process is a guaranteed & viable curriculum. Content area experts ensure quality through a process of continual review. The key components of the TEKS Resource System are: A K-12 systemic model in the four core content areas Common language, structure, and process for curriculum delivery Innovative Technology Aligned written, taught, and tested curriculum Clarified and specified TEKS/STAAR expectations assembled in a vertical alignment format.

State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness
What is STAAR?
STAAR is the new state assessment program that begins in spring 2012. STARR is the acronym for The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness and will replace (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) TAKS, the current state assessment program for students in grades 3-8 and the entering freshman class of 2011-2012.
Do all kids take STAAR?
First time freshmen in 2011-2012 will be the first graduating class required to meet the standards on STAAR as well as pass their classes to meet graduation requirements. These students will have to pass twelve subject level course exams (EOC’s) in order to graduate. Three examinations each in language arts, science, math and social studies will be administered based upon course enrollment. Requirements for student promotion in grades 5 & 8 will remain the same as under TAKS. Passing the reading and math tests will be required for promotion to the next grade level.
Testing in grades 3-8 for STAAR will be the same subject tests as under the former testing system.
How is STAAR Different from TAKS?
STAAR will be more rigorous as it is aligned to Texas’ College and Career Readiness Standards as well as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS, which will remain the curriculum for Texas). The majority of the new STAAR assessments will test content students studied that year, as opposed to testing content studied over multiple years. Doing so will strengthen the alignment between what is taught and what is tested for a given course of study.
State Curriculum Standards - TEKS
The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), comprise the state-mandated curriculum guidelines that establish what every student, from elementary school through high school, should know and be able to do. They were developed to comply with §28.002(c) and (d) of the Texas Education Code.
